Puppy Yoga might just be it.

In these feel-good sessions, you combine yoga, stretches and breathing with cuddling a litter of wriggly puppies. The puppy play helps people unwind, and organisers say it helps the puppies get used to people before they go to their new homes.

Some classes include a bit of gentle yoga followed by puppy cuddles, while others offer Puppy Therapy sessions focused entirely on playtime. This is often a favourite with kids who just want to spend time with the pups. Either way, it’s a relaxed and enjoyable activity that many families find surprisingly calming.

Before you book, it’s important to check that your provider follows current UK law on animal welfare. Check that puppies are at least 8 weeks old, that the organiser holds a council animal licence, and that the puppies have water, rest breaks and a quiet space away from people. Our FAQs below explain what to look for.

We’ve rounded up Puppy Yoga classes across London, with tips on choosing one where the puppies are well looked after.

What is Puppy Yoga?

Puppy yoga is a gentle yoga class that includes time with young puppies. The puppies are usually brought in by local breeders and should be at least 8 weeks old, which is the minimum age puppies can be sold in England.

The puppies may be in the room during the yoga or brought in afterwards for cuddles and play. For us it’s a calm and fun experience. Good organisers keep sessions short, give the puppies water and rest, and let them come to you rather than handing them round.

Puppy Yoga Class Providers in London

Puppy Yoga London

Hoxton, N1

Puppy Yoga London runs both Puppy Yoga and Puppy Therapy sessions. There’s no need for special equipment or shoes.

How old do you have to be?

Each class is different. Some welcome children from 6 years, usually with an adult, while others are for teens or adults only, so it’s best to check before you book.

Is puppy yoga good for the puppies?

It’s an important question to ask. UK welfare charities, including the RSPCA, Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club, have raised concerns about puppy yoga, and some would like to see it banned. Their worries include puppies being too young, being woken up to play, and spending long periods in busy, noisy rooms. There are no rules written specifically for puppy yoga yet. Businesses that show animals to the public need a council licence, but standards still vary between organisers.

It’s worth checking before you book. Look for:

a council animal licence, shown on the organiser’s website

puppies aged 8 weeks or older

fresh water and a quiet area where puppies can rest

puppies coming to you, rather than being passed around

sleeping puppies left to sleep

a limit on how many sessions the puppies do each day

The same points apply to kitten and bunny yoga.

Where do the puppies come from?

Most classes work with local breeders.
