Designed by architect Percy W. Meredith, our striking Art Deco venue was built in 1931 to house the Leith Hill Musical Festival and host renowned composer Ralph Vaughan Williams’ staging of Bach’s St Matthew Passion.
The venue was designed to host a range of community events. It comprised three Halls: the Masonic, the Martineau and the impressive Grand; all of which remain today.
The Grand can seat 900 people, and its original stage could accommodate 300 singers and a full orchestra. The acoustics were exceptional and there was also a fully-sprung dance floor.

About Bring Your Own Baby Comedy
Join us for an afternoon of hilarious comedy, where you can relax and have a good laugh at the best comedians in the UK, without needing childcare!There's buggy parking, baby changing and more at all our venues, so that you can take some time for yourself and just be entertained.
The bar is fully stocked, whether you fancy a cuppa or even something a bit stronger (G&T anyone?).
If you need to whip out a bum (the baby’s please!), a boob or a bottle, then please feel free… and our comics won’t mind being heckled by our younger guests!
Each show features two brilliant comedians plus a compere, and the whole show will last approx. 75 minutes including an interval.
Please note that we have a 15-month age limit for our little laughers, as our comedians will be performing their usual grown-up jokes!
