About

1871: Brighton. One woman spurned by unrequited love, inflamed with barely quenched lust, undertook a murderous rampage about the town. Her weapon of choice: confectionery. Sweets laced with poison. The Sorrowful Tale of Sleeping Sidney is a comically macabre, puppet-told, true Brighton story about obsessive love, murder and chocolate. Seven lavish glove puppets and one narrator-puppeteer enact this historical tale, based on the story of the Brighton Chocolate Cream Poisoner. Written by Daisy Jordan and Ulysses Black. Created and performed by Daisy Jordan. Recorded original musical score written and performed by Kate Daisy Grant, featuring fiddle and saw playing by Nick Pynn The show was a finalist for the New Writing South’s “Best New Play Award” following Brighton Fringe Festival 2018. "a gloriously gothic – and surprisingly funny – puppet show.... it's impossible not to fall for its dark, whimsical charms." - Quote from Exeunt Magazine review. "...the kind of charming small-scale show which defines the Fringe. It's funny, self-aware, skilful – and beautifully realised in its seaside milieu [✩✩✩✩]" - Fringe Guru. Show suitable for 11+ (contains mild sexual references)
