Learn to pattern cut, sew and professionally finish velvet and cotton fabrics using our sewing machines. On the last day, you will learn how to use our fabulous new Digital Embroidery machine to decorate your bag. Will you create your own logo? Add your name? Or draw your own design? Join our volunteer team on Saturday afternoons for family craft activities inspired by the Museum’s collections. Learn about some of the 350,000 objects in the Horniman’s collections, and discover more about music, nature, wildlife, and the world around us. Get stuck into some crafts and have fun with our wonderful volunteers at these free, drop-in sessions. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 12 October - Celebrate Black History Month by making hanging clouds to write your dreams on – inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. 19 and 26 October - It’s getting spooky at the Horniman! This Halloween we are making bat baskets. Come and join the fun! 2 November - Join us to celebrate Diwali by making paper lanterns. 9 and 16 November - This autumn we will be learning about and making little hedgehogs! 23 November - Celebrate National Tree week by creating autumn leaf people! 30 November - Celebrate National tree week by making ink blown tree paintings! 7 and 14 Dec - This winter we are making and decorating wintery ornaments for you to hang in your home. Creative Wiz Kids holiday clubs are packed with exciting art projects, both themed and free Art. Activities include painting, crafts, dance, drama games, music, face painting, free play and story time. The wider age range enables children to create individually at their own level and also to collaborate across ages should they choose. We offer clubs that are both structured and free-form. Our Saturday Sessions are a perfect place to start the weekend, with different performances and creative activities for children and their adults each week – all for free. Relaxed Sessions are our adapted version for children and families who would benefit from a sensory adapted space and a smaller group. The Family Station, located on the Upper Ground Floor, includes creative resources full of ideas to explore, make and play in the Library. Start your family adventure here, then go off to discover our building and learn all about the Library. What is the Family Station? • It is completely drop-in, so arrive anytime between 11.00 and 15.00 and stay for as long as you like. You’re welcome to arrive, leave, and come back whenever suits you best. • While our Learning Assistants will be onsite, Family Station is completely family-led and informal. Meaning you can play, read and explore as a family, and help yourself to our various creative resources. • There will be fun sensory items out to play with, a pop-up reading corner with braille and tactile editions and art materials to experiment, draw and build • You can also borrow specially designed trails to explore the wider Library through your senses and enjoy playful interactions with our building and collection • The Family Station is fully accessible and suitable for children with SEND Family Station: Explore and Play, is open on the last Sunday* of every month, every day for one week during select school holidays and on special dates to coincide with Library-wide events.
