ABOUT STORY SPACE
The Story Space collection consists of books that centre children of colour by black, indigenous authors/ illustrators and authors/ illustrators of colour from all over the world.
It also celebrates and centres books by authors with protected characteristics such as disability, sexual orientation and religion/ belief.
The Early Years and Families team started programming Story Space in 2017 (originally curated by artist and academic Jessie McLaughlin), when only 4% of children’s books published in the UK featured a character who was from a minority ethnic background.
This rose to 20% in 2021. The percentage of books published with a main character from minority ethnic backgrounds has risen year on year but remains low (9% in 2021), meaning that over a third of English primary school pupils still find it difficult to see themselves reflected in the books they read.

Hi, I'm Caroline, the founder of TFS and teaching at this fashion illustration workshop.
I taught fashion illustration for over 20 years at different universities and to our children in the early days of the school when it was just me.
Always lots of fun and the children learned solid foundation illustration skills to take into their own designs and subsequent illustrations.
What we will do
• Start the day with half an hour of short drawing exercises to bring the group together as we bond as a creative group
• Discover proportion and stance as we create our own fashion templates
• Experiment with different drawing media
• Experience working with per printed templates
• Group drawing exercise
• Develop drawing techniques and composition through a final fashion illustration
What you will take home
Fashion development illustrations
Experimental fashion drawings
1 final fashion drawing
Spaces are limited, so book now for a day filled with fashion, fun, and learning!
