On Sunday 20 November at 16.00, come along and experience a one-off ice skating experience, hosted by our partners from the original winter wonderland of the Bern Region in Switzerland. Bringing a uniquely Swiss winter vibe, Bern Baby Bern is a unique opportunity to skate with a Swiss twist, meet Bernie the Swiss mountain dog mascot, and receive some local Swiss goodies. Step into the pages of the comic and take a trip into Beanotown to explore how this beloved icon of British comics has fired up successive generations to break the rules, while discovering artists who push boundaries in their own original and wonderful ways. Come face-to-face with the Beano gang - including Dennis and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx, Bananaman and the Bash Street Kids – through original comic artwork and amazing artefacts, plundered from the Beano’s archive. NEW YEAR'S EVE AT SOMERSET HOUSE WITH MOËT & CHANDON Count down to 2023 with the ultimate New Year’s Eve celebration of DJs, ice skating and fireworks. Dance the night away to party tunes and roof raisers in an iconic setting, and skate into the new year on one of London’s most spectacular ice rinks. On the Portico Balcony in our courtyard we're joined by Soho Radio, followed by DJ, performer and drag race royalty Jonbers Blonde who brings an electrifying set celebrating pop icons. Over in the East Wing Foundation FM hosts a house party-style night, spinning the best in sounds from across the capital’s underground club scenes. As the clock approaches midnight, go arm in arm with loved ones to watch London’s New Year’s Eve firework display on Somerset House’s River Terrace. Set back from the crowds along the riverside, you can enjoy an exclusive view of the dazzling display before heading back to celebrate the new year with closing DJ sets. FOOD & DRINK For those looking to dine their way into the new year, delicious food and drink upgrade packages are available. Transporting guests to the Swiss mountains, Chalet Suisse by Jimmy Garcia, in partnership with Switzerland Tourism, offers a special set menu of comforting festive favourites, from traditional and vegan fondue feasts with all the trimmings to indulgent desserts, with a glass of Moët & Chandon Champagne and canapes to be enjoyed on arrival (pre-booking essential). Guests to Spring Restaurant can upgrade their booking to join the New Year’s Eve celebrations following the evening’s final dinner service (pre-booking via Spring is essential). Celebrating authentic Indian flavours, Dipna Anand at Somerset House will also be open to the event's guests for sit-down dining, located in the South Wing (no booking required). A range of other warming bites will be available to purchase across site to keep partygoers fuelled. Guests can toast the New Year with a glass of champagne or spiced-winter cocktail whilst soaking up views of the ice rink in comfort and style at the elegant Skate Lounge by Moët and Chandon. Chalet Suisse, Hotel Chocolat’s Chocmobile, Somerset House’s resident cafe WatchHouse and a bar in East Wing will also be on hand with refreshments. London’s leading festival of experimental games returns to Somerset House showcasing the very latest in independent and experimental game design from across the globe. Now in its eighth year, the festival hosts a weekend of engaging interaction and play for all ages to enjoy. This year’s festival explores the relationship between democracy and game design, inviting audiences to creatively explore what democracy can learn from game design, and in turn how game design can become more democratic. Power, decision-making and representation serve as inspiration for thought-provoking solo and multiplayer gaming experiences by pioneering creative voices from around the world. Step inside the magical world of This Bright Land, transforming our magnificent courtyard into a wonderland open to all, with joyful day-and-night performances, music, dance, talks, workshops and more, platforming established creatives and grassroots communities. Created by Somerset House Studios artists Gareth Pugh and Carson McColl, This Bright Land will put togetherness at its heart. From bold attractions including a 35m observation wheel and open-air Vogue Balls, staged in collaboration with Vogue Rites, to parties hosted by creative collectives and Sunday street parties, the festival seeks to encourage connection and collaboration through entertainment and play. There will be a fee to participate in some of the activities available. Open every day - so much is free! Weekend Highlights (19-21 Aug) Our third SUNDAY STREET PARTY is brought to you by Figs in Wigs, the aficionados of deadpan dancing and pointless party games, land in our courtyard to bring you a day-to-night party for the whole family. Our FRIDAY WEEKEND WARM-UPS return with ESEA Sisters, the collective creating space for women, trans*, non-binary & genderqueer folks of East and Southeast Asian heritage. On Saturday night our spectacular VOGUE BALLS continue as Vogue Rites invites you to The Butterfly Ball, a night honouring transformation and joy.
