A fantastic introduction to the world of acting. Through fun and engaging activities, students will explore improvisation, character development, and storytelling. This class encourages creativity, builds confidence and enhances communication skills. This Acting Junior Drama class is suitable for children aged 6-12 years old. About BWA Performing Arts The Betty Wivell Academy of Performing Arts was established in 1964. Since then, thousands of students have trained with us. When we started, it was ballet lessons in Miss Wivell’s sitting room. Now we have multiple classes across 3 venues! We prioritise more than just dance – we are all about building confidence and developing skills. Whether your child has dreams of a career in the arts (as many of our West Ender alumni) or simply wants to explore their passion for dance and theatre, we got it covered. We take pride in embracing the diversity and unique talents and interests of each student! From competitions to shows (our most recent production, Seussical, was a success!) every year our students grace the stage with confidence and joy! For those who wish to elevate their performing skills we also do local productions, and join competitions where our students usually take some medals home! We also have students who are represented by our partner agencies. Some have landed roles in films, and national marketing campaigns!

Our Performance Troupe is open to students from 11-18 years old. Students follow a weekly timetable of Musical Theatre based training all taught by our musical director Jack Holliday and our choreographer Aaron Wingrove Littman, both of whom have a wonderful rapport with young people. The Anna Fiorentini Performance Troupe is made up of our students that want that extra little push each week and the opportunity to perform at a range of community events and spread joy through performance. This Troupe is the face of the school and its charitable arm the Fiorentini Foundation. Our Performance Troupe performs in local hospitals, care homes and homes for the elderly as well as a variety of community and corporate events. To date, the Performance Troupe has performed at: The Museum of Docklands St. Joseph’s Hospice, (Hackney) Homerton University Hospital City & Islington business Awards RBS St. Mary’s Hospitals KPMG Canary Wharf Festival The Hospital Club Islington giving alongside Help the Aged The Emirates stadium We are training our students to be triple threat performers which is what the industry is asking for more and more. We encourage our students to hone their musicality and be able to combine this with acting and handling choreography. Even straight singers need to understand acting through song and, vice-versa, actors need to be able to hold a tune and use their physicality. We really feel this three-prong approach will stand our students head and shoulders above other performers in their field and allows to showcase themselves in the best possible light across all platforms. Please note, students must arrive at least 10 minutes before classes start.

Our drama lessons provide a dynamic and engaging curriculum that combines imagination, teamwork, and self-discovery. We offer a range of activities and exercises that encourage children to step out of their comfort zones, explore different characters and emotions, and develop their own unique acting style. Drama is a powerful tool that can help children develop essential life skills, boost their confidence, and foster a love for the performing arts. One of the highlights of our drama program is the opportunity to prepare for and participate in prestigious LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) and Trinity exams. These internationally recognized qualifications not only provide a benchmark for your child’s progress but also open doors to further educational and performance opportunities.

Students are put into groups according to their age. On their very first day they will be buddied up with one or two other students so that they have ready-made friends that can look out for them and make them feel welcome and ease their nerves. Most weeks students will follow a time-table of Drama /Film, Singing and Dance. Each class is just under an hour. Occasionally all the departments work together especially if working towards a showing or a music video for example. There are huge benefits to working cross-media, sometimes dance rehearsals are filmed and students may combine singing and film to make their own music video which really allows our students to feel like the professionals we are training them up to be!
