TIME TO SING Music and language have many things in common and Monkey’s action songs have been especially written to support your child's early language development. Colourful props aid visual memory while repeated actions reinforce a feel for the ‘steady beat’. TIME TO MOVE Moving and dancing freely around the room with Monkey encourages your child to express the music that they hear with their whole bodies. Exercising to music forms and strengthens neural bridges that are necessary for later learning. TIME TO PLAY The Monkey Music Band offers your child the opportunity to practise fine motor skills using hand held percussion instruments. Band members need a certain amount of self awareness and self discipline which comes with regular band practice! TIME TO SLEEP Toddlers need active time for exercise and quieter times for calmer activities. Listening is a critical life skill which we nurture with relaxing and soothing music to conclude each Monkey Music class experience. Song words are closely linked to rhythmic body movements which relieve your baby’s digestion and any stress they may be feeling. TIME TO MOVE Sensory props and stimulating visual experiences encourage Rock ‘n’ Roll babies to move their bodies and make sounds with their voices – this interaction activates the brain to release chemicals that help memory. TIME TO PLAY Baby – friendly percussion instruments release magical sounds and captivate and enthral our Rock ‘n’ Rollers! By reaching out and grasping for the sounds your baby will be stimulating their physical and emotional development. TIME TO SLEEP The more a baby is cuddled and held, the more secure and independent he will be when he gets older. Monkey’s soothing lullabies nurture a lifetime of music and are available as a digital download for you to learn and sing to your baby every day. A confident child is a musical child. Older toddlers have fun with their friends and develop a strong musical foundation for their future learning. TIME TO SING Songs for dressing up and telling simple stories! ‘ Pretending’ is an important new area of learning as exploration and self expression builds self confidence. Through positive music interaction with each other, our toddlers are also learning important lessons about boundaries and how to handle frustration! TIME TO MOVE Toddlers are keen to get to know each other – bigger more exciting props such as hoops and parachute are excellent for sharing and making friends! Holding hands with partners in Monkey’s circle dances often makes the grown-ups feel very happy too! TIME TO PLAY Composing music is something that comes naturally to our Jiggety-Jiggers! Their strong musical foundation gives them super musical confidence. Props, images, music, stories and poems inspire our little monkeys as they create and perform their own special music. TIME TO SLEEP Most of our classes end with a little time for quiet reflection. Our Jiggety-Jiggers are gently reminded to practise new songs at home using some song words which may be printed from the Monkey Music Club. They may also be invited to bring something from home, to show in class the following week, as part of class topic discussions. If you're hoping to raise a baby genius, we encourage you to book for the term to best benefit from our progressive programme. Drop ins and sporadic attendees will certainly have a giggle and learn lots from the session as well. This class will feature; - Extra support for carers who have two children in attendance - Some focussed time on the mat alongside lots of free play to allow space for your little movers and shakers to stretch their legs (a winner for those caring for 2 small people!) - Different percussion instruments each week - Exposure to live instruments from our professional performing musicians - Different sensory play items each week - Focused activities geared towards fine and gross motor skills development - Lots of social interaction and learning through play - Bags of fun and banter throughout! I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning - Plato About MiniJam: Semi Formal Classes Fun and modern early-years education through music. MiniJam is as much about the coffees and natter before/after class as it is about the interactive music and sensory experience for the babies and children. We have pooled some of London’s top session musicians to create funky versions of nursery rhymes to jam along to. We have also teamed up with psychologist Dr Gabby Bray DPsych, CPsychol, B.A.(Hons) (Oxon) in order to structure our termly programme to best benefit your little one. Music is for everyone, and that includes babies!
Music classes for babies aren't just about singing the same old nursery rhymes. You can expect a multisensory experience with all sorts of materials, from shakers, drums and coloured cloths to bubbles and mini parachutes. Plus, lots of movement.
Your baby will be encouraged to wiggle their little body and clap their hands, all while having fun and developing their motor skills.
Some sessions take a calmer, more soothing approach, while others are lively and loud. And you'll also find musical storytelling and live concerts where babies get to hear real instruments and even interact with the musicians.
How early can babies learn music?
Music lessons for babies usually cater to those aged six months and up, as it's around this time that they're more mobile and may show early signs of communication. (1)
But you can introduce music to your baby at home long before then. In fact, the process can begin even while they're in the womb, as experts say foetuses can hear sounds as early as 20 weeks into pregnancy! (2)
