Pumpkin Carving: Family Halloween
Calling all ghouls and goblins, young and old! Get ready for a spooktacular Halloween adventure at Chelsea Physic Garden! Join us for a wickedly fun pumpkin carving session where we'll uncover the mysteries of pumpkin plants and wander through the eerie autumn Garden. Then, step into our haunted garden shed to bring your pumpkin to life as a Halloween friend! All tools and materials are provided, and each participant will take home their own jack-o-lantern creation. Remember, sharp tools are involved, so each child must have a grown-up ghoul to assist. Calling all little monsters and their grown-up ghouls! Get into the Halloween spirit at Chelsea Physic Garden with a hands-on messy play session in our outdoor classroom. Make it: Hats
Get curious and creative with Make it’s! These Saturday workshops offers families to chance explore what is means to be a designer! Design a Schiaparelli inspired hat inspired with fashion designer Matthew David Andrews. In this hands-on family workshop, create your own extraordinary hat, inspired by nature, art and the unexpected. Inspired by the Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art exhibition, explore imagery from the natural world, extraordinary fashion creations and everyday objects to spark ideas for your own design. The first step is finding inspiration, discover how designers can transform the familiar into something completely new — and how a little imagination can turn a simple hat into a statement. Then it’s time to get designing. Sketch your ideas and experiment with shapes, colours, textures and details before choosing your favourite design to bring to life. Finally, the making begins. Lead by Matthew, bring your ideas to life. Working directly onto a hat, add felt, tissue paper, other fabric and craft materials. You’ll learn how small changes can make a big visual impact as your idea develops from a sketch into something you can wear. At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own magnificent hat — a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art that you designed and made yourself. You'll leave with new hat making skills and would have worked with a designer that has designed a hat for Lady Gaga! All materials will be provided, all sourced sustainably. No previous experience is necessary, just come along and join in! The 10:30 workshop is recommended for ages 5-7; 13:00 is recommended for ages 8-10 and 15:00 is recommended for 11-13. Each workshop is 90 minutes long. Tickets are £20 minimum for one adult and child pair. Children must be always accompanied by an adult. Please note that adults will be able to attend only if they've booked a child ticket too. Materials will be allocated to the children within your group. Adults will be working together with their children. This is a families event for adults to take part in with their children; no child can be left unattended. Please double-check that you are available for an event before booking tickets, we only offer refunds in exceptional circumstances. If the V&A needs to cancel the event due to an emergency, or for any reason beyond the control of the V&A, we will reschedule your booking for a later date. Drop-in Design: Your Future City
This October half term, families are invited to imagine, redesign and build shared public buildings and landmarks of tomorrow in this hands-on drop-in design workshop. What might a library look like in 2050? Choose a school, hospital, library, train station or something entirely new and reinvent it for the future. Take inspiration from Design 1900–Now galleries, which explore how design has changed the ways we live, work, travel, communicate and more, over the past 125 years. Work with surprising materials, shapes, structures and ideas found in the collection, to get designing and making your own futuristic buildings. Using recycled materials, bring your ideas to life by making a mini model of your dream building. Then add it to our city of the future that will grow and change over five days. Drop-in Design: The Circulation Department
Join us for October Half Term to create your own inventions for a future city, using images from the V&A collection and recycled materials, then turn them into wearable art! Every city needs new inventions. Fancy creating an invention for the future as art you can wear on your head? Join artist Gayle Chong Kwan to create your own wearable art inspired by objects from the Design 1900-Now collection. Use images from the V&A, recycled packaging, and add colours to make your art. Design Baby Drop - In
Pop along to our Design Baby drop-in! A sensory play session for children aged 0-3 and their adults throughout the October half term. Play with experimental, open-ended materials and mix them up with your little ones! Share your experience with other families and create new connections. What does Architecture mean for babies and toddlers? Come along to this session to explore Architecture with your little ones through shape, space and texture. Explore textures and play with materials to make new structures and more. This session will be child-led and non-structured to allow your child to explore the space and materials freely, at their own pace. This event has been devised in collaboration with Play Build Play. Space is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents and carers are kindly asked to stay with their children at all times. Pop-up Performance: Soundtrack to the City
Join Kemi Sulola to tinker, invent and experiment with sounds to create your own soundtrack to the city. Come along and spend time with Kemi Sulola, a musician and singer-songwriter known for working across jazz, reggae, motown, afrobeat, and hip-hop. As a family come along to be inspired by sounds of your city and ideas within the V&A’s Design 1900-Now collection, to create soundtracks for city living, Create sounds using unexpected-everyday objects which you will use as instruments to layer up, like an orchestra, with other families sounds. Each session families will record a song together to be played as a new soundtrack for our future city. Sessions start at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00. Each session is approximately 45 minutes.

The Magic Garden
Have you ever thought about the hidden world beneath our feet? What if there were secret messages passed between plants through their roots? Could there be tiny creatures building homes and cities in an underground world? What's really going on down there? Is there a whole hidden world bigger and busier than anything you can see above ground? Get curious about the magic happening under all plants that make our gardens grow. Step into the Magic Garden, where roots weave, mushrooms bloom, and the soil quietly works its magic. Be inspired by wriggly creatures, connecting roots, and more to create your own large sculptures inspired by nature, using recycled and reused materials. Build tall twisting root sculptures using tubes and paper. Build huge seeds, worm tunnels and the roots of mushrooms using thread or fabric and don't forget to add in sculptures of bugs that live in the soil. You’ll get to work with Adobe Creative Resident, Emily Stapleton-Jefferis who will help you to create sculptures that are about the building blocks of nature. Like a root system, your artwork will grow over the day as your sculpture connects to other families' creations. No experience needed, just come along, get building and have fun!

Family Space with Sadie St Hilaire
From September – November join Family Space artist-in-residence Sadie St Hilaire for exciting family workshops exploring storytelling and world building. Family Space is a relaxed, creative workshop designed for families to explore and make together. Sessions are artist-led but you can join any time and take part at your own pace. • Creative, fun sessions for children aged 5–12 years with parents/carers • Free, donations welcome • No booking required, drop in anytime. About Sadie St Hilaire Sadie St Hilaire is a London-based illustrator, animator and arts educator whose practice explores drawing, storytelling and playful ways of making. She has worked with children, families and communities through creative workshops and collaborative projects. Sadie has worked with cultural organisations including the V&A, Drawing Room, Studio Voltaire and the Barbican, using activities such as illustration, animation, printmaking and zine-making to encourage creativity and experimentation.

About Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art opened in London in 1998. A Grade II listed Georgian town house, it was originally restored with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Further recent renovations have opened up the space of the ground-floor entranceway, bookshop and café, while its six galleries and art library have also been fully upgraded. The Collection is known internationally for its core of Futurist works, as well as figurative art and sculpture dating from 1890 to the 1950s. Bop Stars Holiday Camps are fun filled, high energy days designed to keep children active, confident and smiling throughout the school holidays. Suitable for ages 5 to 12, our camps combine performing arts, circus skills, movement, creativity and play in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment. Children enjoy singing, dancing and acting sessions alongside exciting circus skills, including aerial silks and lyra, as well as juggling, balance and coordination activities, all led by our experienced, DBS checked Bop Stars teachers. All aerial activities are delivered in a carefully structured and age appropriate way, with a strong focus on safety, confidence building and enjoyment. Each day is thoughtfully planned to balance energetic activities with creative focus and downtime, helping children build confidence, develop new skills, make friends and express themselves through performance, whether they are brand new or already love the spotlight. Our camps are confidence building, creative and engaging, led by friendly professionals and designed for both new and returning children. No prior experience is needed, just enthusiasm and a love for having fun. Children can expect performing arts sessions including singing, dancing and acting, circus skills such as aerial silks, lyra, juggling and balance work, creative games and team challenges, imaginative themes and playful storytelling, and a warm supportive environment where every child shines. Creative activities for toddlers
Creative activities are great for toddlers because they help to expand their imaginations, develop their autonomy (which they crave at this age!) and enhance their self-expression.
You can expect lots of making using a wide variety of tools, along with open-ended storytelling, freestyle dancing and singing. Children who like building will find sessions using blocks, clay and other open-ended materials.
Just remember to keep their developmental stage in mind to set them up for success. Tools might need to be bigger to allow for easier grip, and stories may need to be simplified for their understanding.
