Royal Mews

Royal Mews

The Royal Mews is one of the finest working stables anywhere in the world and home to the royal collection of historic coaches and carriages, and the Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays, the horses that pull the carriages. To this day, the stables are still responsible for all road travel arrangements for His Majesty The King and other members of the Royal Family. The Royal Mews has been the location of the sovereign’s road transport since 1760 when George III moved his carriage collection closer to his new home at Buckingham Palace – since then it has been updated by several monarchs in keeping with their changing transport needs. Among the historic coaches and carriages on display are the spectacular Diamond Jubilee State Coach, and the Australian State Coach, which was given to Queen Elizabeth II as a gift from the Australian people, and even includes central heating! The most dazzling of all is the Gold State Coach, which has been used at every coronation since that of William IV, and which played a starring role in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. Families visiting the Royal Mews will love posing for a photo while sitting in a replica of Queen Victoria's Semi-State Landau carriage, dressing up as a footman in specially created livery, or even learning how to harness a horse! As well as a complimentary multimedia guide for every visitor, the Royal Mews offers regular guided tours where visitors can learn the history of the Mews and its association with the British monarchy.

Metamorphosis: Small flies, big changes

Metamorphosis: Small flies, big changes

From egg to adulthood, flies undertake a drastic change! Not just in their shape but also their behaviour and habitat. In this talk, Erica McAlister will introduce the life cycle of a fly using examples from some of the 170,000 species that have been described to date. From the simple worm-like forms of the larvae to the all-seeing, all-flying adults, flies have evolved to be some of the most specialised and most extraordinary animals that we share our planet with. Different species have different specialisms throughout their life cycles – from eggs that can freeze to larvae that can desiccate, these really are the planetary explorers. Come along to find out more about these winged creatures and also how learning more about the life cycles of flies is helping us understand our own. J.K. Rowling completed the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in June 1995 and was rejected by 12 publishers before Bloomsbury bought it. Rowling went on to write six sequels, which follow Harry's adventures at Hogwarts with friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley and his attempts to defeat Lord Voldemort, a dark wizard who killed Harry’s parents when he was a child. The books were transformed into a blockbuster series of eight films released over 10 years, which grossed more than $7 billion worldwide. The series has since prompted a massive amount of related merchandise including, but not limited to, clothing, video games, spin-off prequels, and a US theme park! This April, Midnight in the Toyshop arrives in the West End for a limited run of magical fun for families. As midnight strikes, the toyshop bursts into life and an unforgettable adventure unfolds. Step inside a magical toyshop where toys spring to life as the clock strikes midnight. But their world is under threat. When tech entrepreneur, Peyton Pixel, plans to tear down the toyshop and replace it with an AI experience centre, the toys must prove that REAL children still want REAL toys. Harnessing Belle Ballerina's feisty attitude, Rebel Racer's high-octane energy and Grumble the Dinosaur's cake-fuelled courage, the unlikely team set off on an epic adventure to show that technology can't replace the magic of true friendship. But can they outsmart Peyton and save their home before daybreak? Packed with catchy songs, dazzling dances and heart-warming storytelling, Midnight in the Toyshop is a delightful musical the whole family will adore. Whether your child attends Perform or not, this enchanting mini-musical is a must-see treat for anyone looking for a joyful and imaginative family day out.

Perform Drama, Dance & Singing, 4-7yrs

Perform Drama, Dance & Singing, 4-7yrs

Perform is a unique type of children’s drama school. Focusing on child development, Perform uses a specially formulated mix of drama, dance and singing to bring out every child’s true potential. Small class sizes ensure lots of individual attention by the experienced actor-teachers who focus on developing the 4 Cs: Confidence, Communication, Coordination and Concentration and having the best fun of the week. Perform offer no-obligation FREE trial sessions to all newcomers. About Perform Perform was launched in 2000 as a new kind of drama school - one that has child development at its very heart. The founders, Will Barnett and Lucy Quick, both had a passion for the performing arts and wanted to create a unique organisation to help build children's self-esteem and life skills. Starting with two schools in Primrose Hill and Islington, Perform has grown to over 350 venues across London and the South and West of England. It now encompasses hundreds of weekly classes for 4-7s and 7-12s, holiday courses and Perform for Schools - a thriving programme of workshops in primary schools. At Perform, we embrace the uniqueness of every child, offering a distinctive blend of drama, dance and singing to unlock their true potential. Our ethos is simple: focus on happiness and fulfilment, recognising that each child's journey is their own. Rather than teaching rigorous techniques, memorisation and repetition to produce a 'perfect performance', Perform uses drama-based games, exercises, songs and dances in an imaginative and fun way to help boost child development. With Perform, you're not just enrolling your child in a drama class; you're giving them a space to thrive, learn and have fun. Perform is more than just a drama school; it's a community dedicated to nurturing creativity and confidence in children through a unique curriculum of original content, imaginative games and fun exercises. With over 350 venues across the UK, our centrally-run approach ensures consistent quality and care, making Perform the ideal place for your child to grow. Discover the Perform difference and watch your child shine.
