The best kids ballet classes in London near you

Plenty of kids fall in love with dance after being enchanted by ballerinas on stage or screen. Below you’ll find supportive kids ballet classes across London that could help turn a fascination into a physical activity with clear wellbeing benefits.

Will my child enjoy ballet classes?

The best kids ballet classes make learning techniques fun. For younger children, that often means stories, music and even mime.

As kids progress from simple moves to full routines, they may also grow in other ways: dance is thought to build confidence and social skills in children. (1)

For those who may feel intimidated by big classes, many lessons involve pair or group work, too.

Ultimately, if your kid has already shown an interest in ballet, it makes sense to explore it. Research suggests children enjoy activities more when they help choose them. (2)

This is combined with a strong focus on improvisation to classical music as well as developing the initial positions of the arms and legs, dance steps, jumps and poses. Work on the development of musicality and grace in the performance of ballet movements. Strengthening of the feet, posture and turnout is also emphasized, as well as developing new ballet movements on the floor, at the barre and in dances. Our classes provide a fun start for children wishing to experience the joy of dance in a creative and structured environment. There is a strong emphasis on performance from our team of classically trained ballerinas, who actively dance and demonstrate with the children ensuring that each class is taught in a stimulating but instructive manor. As with all our classes, the emphasis is on inspiring the young dancer to fulfil his or her potential. About Dance With Us Dancewithus.co.uk began with a love story that lasted a lifetime. Darja Bardo, a dance enthusiast, wanted to extend the art of dancing throughout the area. Her aim was to give people in the area a chance to socialize, get to know their neighbours and bring creativity into their daily routines of people. Attracting professional choreographers and gymnasts, the first Dance Fitness Classes started. Fast-forward and one class became two. And then not only adults were enjoying the freedom of movement as kids' classes started. However, there is much more ahead for the studio! As the aim is to give access to all styles of dance and allow people to find the style that allows them to feel free and happy.

FAQ: How to find the best kids ballet classes for you in London

What age should a child start ballet?

Children can start ballet from toddler age. Some London classes welcome children from around 15 months. At this age, lessons focus on movement, music and imagination rather than formal technique. More structured ballet comes later. The Royal Academy of Dance starts its Pre-Primary programme from age five.

What is baby ballet?

Baby ballet is a playful introduction to dance for toddlers and very young children. Classes often combine music, simple ballet movements, stories and imaginative play. Some also involve a parent or carer. This can help younger children feel comfortable while they explore movement.

Is 7 too old to start ballet?

Seven is not too old to start ballet. Children can begin learning much later, too. The Royal Academy of Dance even runs beginner ballet classes for teenagers aged 13–17. The key is finding a beginner class suited to your child’s age and experience.

Are there free kids ballet classes in London?

Free ongoing kids ballet classes are rare in London. However, some schools offer free trial lessons. These let your child experience the teacher and class before you commit to a term.

How much do kids ballet classes cost?

Kids ballet classes can range from around £5 per class to upwards of £15, based on a sample of listings on Loopla. The average when we checked in September 2026 was £10.44 per class.

What you pay for kids ballet classes will depend on the dance school, age group and area in London. Classes aimed entirely at children aged six and under average about £10 per class, for example.

Most classes run weekly and ask families to book in full-term blocks. Some offer a free trial or paid taster period before you commit. Moving Waves, for example, allows you to book a 2-week taster period for £27. This lets children try unlimited classes over the 2 weeks across its three academies.
