Christmas in West London with kids: Family events + activities near you
What's the most Christmassy part of London? This question recently sparked a bit of a debate in the Loopla office as we were put together our main guide to Christmas in London with kids for 2026.
West London was a popular pick, thanks to how scenic its many charming parks, gardens and grand palaces are in winter. Hyde Park, Kew Gardens and (a bit further out) Hampton Court Palace, to name just a few.
Whatever the answer, families spending Christmas in West London are spoiled for choice in 2026.
What are the best things to do at Christmas in West London with kids?
Winter Wonderland is perhaps the city’s most popular Christmas activity. It welcomes millions of visitors over the six weeks it takes over Hyde Park.
Some parents (including a couple of us on the Loopla team) think it can be a bit overstimulating. But if you can make a less busy weekday session, it’s actually quite budget-friendly. Off-peak entry is free, apart from a £1 booking fee. Those slots run every Monday to Thursday in November. Rides and shows cost extra, so it helps to set a budget before you go.
Then there’s the enchanted forest that is Christmas at Kew, a sprawling winter light trail that has been running since 2013. On our last visit, we were in awe of how they light up the Palm House.
As for hidden gems, two caught our eye this year. In Brentford, Santa is visiting a Victorian pumping station full of giant steam engines. Elsewhere, in Richmond Park, you can book a winter carriage ride from 5 December to New Year’s Day.

Ms. Claus Storytime
Meet Ms. Claus - the daughter of Father Christmas - and discover the secrets of growing up in the north pole with Father Christmas as her dad! Ms. Claus grew up with one of the most famous fathers in the world, surrounded by reindeer, elves and the traditions of the North Pole. Her interactive storytelling experience will give children a glimpse into what it was really like growing up as Santa's daughter, including stories about the family's Christmas traditions and some of the little secrets of the reindeer and elves. But this isn't simply a story for children to sit and listen to. Ms. Claus will also ask children about their own Christmas traditions, making the experience a two-way conversation and celebrating the unique ways families make Christmas magical. The experience also includes a festive activity designed to give children something to enjoy and remember beyond their visit. The wider Christmas in the Garden event has a Christmas market, and food and drink available so there is not rush to leave. You can plan your Grotto visit accordingly. Please note: The Ms. Claus session does not include entry to the grotto, this is a separate activity. Finding the right family activities for Christmas in West London:
Where can kids meet Father Christmas in West London in 2026?
Kids can meet Father Christmas all over West London this year, from palace gardens to Hyde Park.
One of the biggest immersive experiences we've seen is Santa’s Winter Garden at Fulham Palace. Special effects artists who’ve worked on famous Christmas films helped design this new attraction for 2026.
The bits we're most excited to explore are the Snow Maze, Candy Cane Walk and Lamplight Lane. As for meeting Santa himself, this takes place at his North Pole HQ. The experience runs from 20 November to 23 December.
For the best value, head to Santa Land at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. It’s London’s largest free grotto, and well-behaved kids get a present from Santa.
You’ll need to pay to get into Winter Wonderland itself if going during peak times. Off-peak entry costs just a £1 booking fee. Santa visits can’t be booked ahead, though, so expect a queue.
If queuing is something you'd rather avoid, try a storytelling session instead. We also find these suit shy little ones who might be overwhelmed by the full grotto experience.
Father Christmas will be reading to children at the Natural History Museum from 1 to 22 December.
He's also going to be telling stories in Chelsea Physic Garden’s greenhouse from 4 to 20 December.
Where to see Christmas lights in West London in 2026
West London’s Christmas lights start switching on in mid-November in big events that are usually free to attend.
Chelsea lights up along the King’s Road on 12 November. As does Fulham Pier beside the Thames the same evening.
Knightsbridge follows suit on 13 November. Then on 22 November, Belgravia hosts a switch-on event while opening its Christmas market.
Over Christmas in West London the big winter light trails tend to be paid, though. We touched on Christmas at Kew already. But if you're taking a toddler, Chelsea Winter Village & Illuminations may be the smarter option.
The trail through the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea is 1.5km, half the length of Kew’s. At the end of it you'll find fairground rides, curling and fire pits. This bit is free to enter if you don't have the time (or energy) for the trail. You may even catch the Chelsea Pensioners Choir performing.
As for Oxford Street, the Christmas lights will be Harry Potter-themed this year to celebrate the new TV show. The switch-on date hasn’t been announced yet.
