Tennis for kids: Find the best classes in London near you
Some claim tennis is the world's healthiest sport. (1) But its benefits go beyond physical fitness. Tennis for kids works out the brain as well as the body, with recent research linking it to improved focus in preschoolers. (2)
Below you'll find fun kids tennis classes for beginners and youngsters with experience already.
Will my child enjoy kids tennis classes?
Tennis for kids is designed to be playful, fun and engaging. Coaches often teach racket and ball skills through games rather than drills. This is especially true in younger age groups.
And although tennis is an individual sport, many classes we see aim to help their students make friends. This can pay off on the court, after all. Research suggests kids are more likely to stick with a sport when they make good friends in training. (3)

Finding the right kids tennis class in London near you
There are kids tennis classes that cater to all experience levels and most ages.
Some of the tennis sessions we list welcome toddlers as young as 2. Coaches tend to gently introduce these age groups to tennis through fun games and activities.
Older kids who are also new to tennis can build skills at their own pace, too. There are age-appropriate group classes where coaches set individual goals.
Many kids tennis classes will offer trial sessions. This way you can make sure it's the right fit before booking a full block. Holiday camps are another way to get a taste of a kids tennis class.

Tennis for kids in London FAQ: How to find the best classes near you
At what age should a child start tennis?
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) starts its main junior pathway at age four. Ages 4–6 focus on balance, coordination and learning the basics. From 6–8, children start serving, rallying and scoring, with relaxed competition introduced. So around six is when tennis begins to look more like playing against another child. These age bands are guides rather than strict cut-offs. You can find classes designed to introduce toddlers aged 2 and up to tennis.
Can a 2 year old play tennis?
Some London kids tennis classes welcome children from age two. At this age, sessions are usually built around throwing, catching, moving and simple racket games. The aim is not to play full matches. It is to build the coordination and confidence needed to use a racket and ball.
What are the benefits of tennis for kids?
Tennis can improve kids' balance, coordination and agility while giving the brain a workout, too. In a 12-month study of 32 children aged 6–11, those who increased tennis from once to four times a week improved their working memory more. (4) A 2026 study also linked tennis to improved focus in preschoolers. (2)
How much do kids tennis lessons cost?
Tennis lessons cost around £12.50 per session for ages 2–10. This is based on a rough average of the classes listed on Loopla in autumn 2026. Holiday camps cost more because sessions are longer. You could expect to pay around £18 for a one-hour tots session. For older children, this may go up to about £60 for a full day at a tennis holiday camp.
Are there free kids tennis lessons in London?
Yes. Barclays Free Park Tennis runs free weekly sessions at participating London park courts. Equipment is provided, so families do not need to buy a racket first. Sessions are designed mainly for children aged six and over, although younger children may be accepted by the venue. Under-12s need an adult with them. These are social, volunteer-led sessions rather than standard coaching lessons.
